"Invincible" by Ivy Ash

Review

Out today is the new single "Invincible" from Ivy Ash: her follow-up to the very successful "Tonight" which was released a month ago. Since I noted last time that a three month gap between putting songs out was hard for fans to endure, perhaps she has taken note!

All those following her career will know how value-driven it is & that her philosophies of life cannot be disaggregated from her work. Since the former would include concepts such as empowerment and overcoming the challenges that life & other people hurl at you, the songs she writes tend to manifest themselves as self help manuals to which you can dance: as I've said before, if you can engage your mind at the same time as your feet, there are ideas in here which she offers you for your benefit, so please do take heed even if you are enjoying yourself quite enough by just moving to the beat.

There are, I suppose, two focuses of her attention this time round: one is the broader reinforcement of all her songs: "you can fight this & you can win". The other, more specific is around combatting & prevailing over voices (external & internal) feeding negative thoughts into your mental & emotional processes.

As with the previous single, Ivy is experimenting with the vocal sound again: less of the jazzy note I detected last time out but it's interesting (and commendable) that though committed to a pop/dance style for this persona, she is reluctant to let it become formulaic.

In some ways, "Invincible" might be taken as a conceptual culmination of her work to date: quite where she goes after this will be interesting to see.
