"Polaroid" by Five Foot Under
Review
Hot on the heels of my review of "Mabel" by Satsangi comes another Woodbine Street production by John Rivers: "Polaroid": the debut by Five Foot Under.
Like so many of the bands I seem to be writing about, featuring on the compilations and featuring in our gigs, Five Foot Under are still in education: in their case Kenilworth School. Which in every case offers fascinating questions as to what they'll be achieving musically in say five years time.
This year's winners of "Godiva Calling" (and look how popular last year's victors Loophole are), they have taken full advantage of the studio package which came with winning this year: they tell me they have plenty of other original tracks primed for recording.
Clearly they had to choose what to put out first & frankly you can understand why this chirpy & catchy number with a particular topical focus on the summer got the nod. When you start out you need to catch attention & accentuate positivity unless you're bent on setting your stall out in a darker format.
I hope they demonstrate their range over the next releases otherwise their efforts here might get a little diminished by repetition but I imagine all concerned are happy with "Polaroid" as the current calling card. Whatever they do have up their sleeve seems to be working so far after all.
