Izzie Derry live

Review

I am pleased to report that after reporting her trauma via her last single "If They Knew What You Did", the song seems to have had something of a cathartic effect on Izzie Derry. I caught up with her yesterday on the HMV Empire balcony in Coventry and she pronounced herself much happier. Just goes to show yet another power which music possesses.

Playing out of doors in the sunshine (I was amused to watch the reaction of passers-by in Hertford Street hearing her perform but unable to see her), her set was a mixture of her own wonderful songs and a greater proportion of covers (such as songs by Joni Mitchell, the Bee Gees and John Martyn) than I'd ever heard her play before.

It was a good choice as she was performing to a packed space, but relatively few who knew her music. That said, she won them over instantly, so much so that she taught them how to sing the coda of her "Til We Reach The Sun" and got them all to join in. If you know the piece, then you'll know that this is not especially easy and certainly not short.

All this is great to report but I'm also seizing the opportunity to tell you of her next local concert which is both for an excellent cause & in equally illustrious company.

On Friday June 13th, Izzie will be joining fellow ‘Hot Music Live Presents' featured artists The Silver Wye (they've never previously played together) for the latest Crypt Session at Coventry Cathedral and it is to raise funds for The Food Union (you may have noticed that Duke Keats played the last one).

Tickets are available via:

But there is yet more: the following Crypt Session (11th July) also features a HMLP community artist (or artists): WorldSong.

The tickets for their event can be obtained via this link:
