"Superhero" by Tom Brannan

News

One of the most dynamic moments of my musical year so far was the sight of Callum Maciver & the rest of the Upsiders whipping the young audience at our fundraiser for The Tin into a frenzy. Not something I'll forget easily.

However Callum has other aspects to his musical talent & one very different in style to the set played that night is his co-composition with Tom Brannan of the latter's new single "Superhero".

The style is a long way from the sort of song I normally review so therefore not just out of my comfort zone but arguably beyond my capabilities, but it's a form of ballad (livened up with a nice little funky bassline) and I'm endebted to Callum for explaining that Tom was approaching it from a musical theatre angle which certainly helped me get a sense of what was going on.

The theme seems to be that of gently admonishing those who retreat into the realms of fantasy at the expense of embracing the joys (and pitfalls) of reality: wise advice not to idealise but accept people for what & who they are.
