"Streets of London" by Wes Finch

Review

Lord knows this lockdown life can seem like "Groundhog Day" when you are inside it. It seems only yesterday that I was telling you about a new charity single involving Wes Finch, a cover version to help those most vulnerable in our society, yet I find myself doing it all over again..

This time the focus is on a new version of Ralph McTell's classic "Streets of London" and unlike the Street Arts Project's "Isolation" which came out on Friday, this time it's a solo Wes.

I'm not sure that there is much I can say about this: you know the song very well already I imagine, the case is a righteous one & the one new aspect, Wes' performance is as high quality as you'd imagine: full of grace and possibly emphasising compassion for the victims rather more than the original which tends slightly more towards reproaching a friend the singer considers self centred. It scarcely matters I suppose as both are excellent in their own way & the lyrics make unambiguous & important points, though it's good after hearing the writer's version so many times to hear another voice & a varied perspective. Please go check it out & above all support the charity as Wes clearly does.
