We review Chasing Deer's new EP Moving On
by Paul Englefield, 17 May 2017
Us lucky, lucky people at Hot Music Live got to check out the new Moving On EP from Chasing Deer. The four tracks were recorded live onto analogue tape at Factory Street Studios in Bradford and will be released on May 19th.
The EP has four songs, each in a different mood and style but all with a strong story to tell..
"Moving On" is smart, sassy and optimistic with an irresistible hook. There are plenty of classy production touches such as a cheeky organ riff in the chorus , subtle ukulele in the bridge and some shamelessly outrageous falsetto vocal flourishes.
"The Simple Life" is more measured, a reflective and personal ballad backed by the band's trademark mix of rolling keyboards and acoustic guitar. There's a big chorus too with soaring harmonies and purposeful dynamics.
"Cover Of The Shade" is different again, a noirish scene of sinister story-telling over haunting soundscapes.
"Don't Slow Me Down" delivers a lively finish with barrels of bar-room ambience, a knock-out chorus and a respectful nod to the Proclaimers.
All excellent stuff in our view; take a listen for yourself at

Here's what Chasing Deer have to say about the EP.
"Ok... so we recorded this EP onto analog tape to catch the raw energy of our performances. We loved the vintage equipment and recording options in Factory Street Studios and it really brought out our creativity. The finished CD is something we're very proud of, with beautiful artwork from Joanna Bucur.
We're looking forward to a sell out night at the Red Room Ealing for the launch night, followed by even more live shows in the UK and abroad in the coming months."
