A brace of gigs for Chantel McGregor at Temperance
ReviewChantel is a regular artist at Temperance but this time was a little different with her bringing her solo acoustic show to the basement, 2 shows on the same day as tickets for the original gig sold out so quickly she added a matinee performance.
Plenty of covers in the set very much the live experience of her 2 Shed Sessions albums, a brace of Fleetwood Mac tunes breathtakingly good versions of ‘Songbird' and ‘Dreams' alongside my request for some Neil Young' and after working it out for a minute or so we had a sublime ‘The Needle and the Damage Done'.
Her guitar work was so impressive through out and her voice so sweet and smooth but powerful, along with
plenty of stories and anecdotes saying at one point it was like playing in her front room and then actually saying its about as big as my front room! and another of an all night drinking session with fellow musician Joanne Shaw Taylor and many more.
Every song was a masterclass of musicianship and my other standouts from the show included fabulous original ‘Anaesthetize' and showing her rock music taste with Metallica's ‘Nothing Else Matters' and Radiohead's ‘Creep'.
A wonderful show one amazing performer with a guitar, an amazing voice, an appreciate audience and a room packed full of music lovers, what a way to spend a Sunday afternoon with a cider/beer or two.
Sure she just was just as incredible at her evening show.
