Monday Nights Live & Local at Coventry HMV store

Review

After the intense disappointment of my last experience of Monday Nights live when their beautiful songs were run through the mangle of unacceptable sound engineering at Leamington Food Festival, some comfort was afforded me by hearing them as intended in pristine sonic conditions at the latest "Live & Local" instore gig at HMV in Coventry.

Playing as a four piece (sans keyboards), although the space was not as ideal as a proper stage, and seeing all of them at any one time was a bit limited, at least the songs came through with absolute clarity as they took ownership of the sound with the help of their friend Louis.

Their nine piece set acted as a launch for next week's ‘Meet You After The Earthquake' EP yet still featured two extremely new songs which was a bonus. I particularly enjoyed hearing recent singles "Japan" & "Vices" live and unmangled given how much I enjoyed reviewing them and older favourites like "Turrah" and "Petrichor" are now established topping & tailing their sets.

A slimmed down version of the band will be playing alongside Ace Ambrose and Duke Keats at the HMV Empire on October 24th: the eve of the full EP release and there is a full show the following evening at The Merchants Inn in Rugby.

So that's Monday Nights on a Saturday afternoon, a Thursday evening & a Friday evening.
