Songs Of Protest at Warwick Arts Centre

News

Coventry legend Pauline Black (The Selecter) hosts a unique night of music and words on the theme of protest at Warwick Arts Centre, on Sunday 27 October 2024.

For one performance only, Songs Of Protest sees Pauline introduce three contemporary musical powerhouses - The Staves, Bess Atwell and Grace Petrie - who draw on their own unique material alongside selected covers of significant protest songs. These will include such classics as Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A Changin' and I Am Woman by Helen Reddy.

From the deeply personal to the political, each act possesses an empowering and inspiring vision.

The Staves' fourth LP, All Now, finds Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor exploring themes of womanhood, sisterhood, and facing your fears.

Quiet activism also permeates through Bess Atwell's remarkable recent collection, made with The National's Aaron Dessner, Light Sleeper.

Grace Petrie is one of the UK's most respected singer-songwriters. Her state of the nation songs, infused with equal parts rage, humour and hope, are astutely observed and brilliantly delivered.

This very special one-off performance has been commissioned by Warwick Arts Centre as a collective call for positive change.

Songs Of Protest takes place at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, on Sunday 27 October 2023. For tickets and further information, see: warwickartscentre.co.uk
