Review

A fortnight after releasing "Brighter", John Connearn is back with "Somewhere New". In his words his "acoustic summer mode is very much underway" which is classic understatement isn't it? A hot pace to match the weather.

"Somewhere New" is busier (for many but not all sections) than its predecessor but still in accord with the principle of prioritising feel & mood over ostentation (though following it technically is well beyond me) and there seemed to me to be moments of incorporation of folk elements though these tended to evolve into other areas. Not that is matters really: the best bet is to possibly to do as I did & just let it flow over you & enjoy it for the effects John no doubt intended: among which optimism would seem to be an important one.

I don't know how long this summer acoustic campaign will last, but like the clement weather, we probably should be grateful and appreciate it in the here & now.
