"Brighter" by John Connearn

Review

As previously noted, when it comes to new releases by John Connearn, my technical knowhow & vocabulary usually runs out pretty quickly & so my reviews tend to point you in his direction & leave you to your own enjoyment & analysis (the latter being optional).

With his latest, "Brighter", I am however able to note several aspects which even I comprehend. Taking a break from his "digital guitary new electronic sounding phase" which characterised his last track, "Rollin' With It", he's on the acoustic instrument this time out & I think that I'm not sticking my neck out too far in assuming that he's evoking summer in this lush instrumental.

The sounds are easier to follow & not processed: the likes of me can identify his command of technique not so much in the complexity of what is being played but in the mastery of feel & little moments which only really excellent players could come up with, but which most listeners can absorb at the level of a pastoral, Æstival sound poem.

What a versatile player he is in terms of concept & execution.
